Hospital Information Desks

Often the first contact BCBS has with a visually impaired person is at one of the Hospital Information Desks are based at Eye Clinics at the Royal Berkshire (Reading), King Edward VII (Windsor), St Mark’s (Maidenhead) and Newbury hospitals. The volunteers there help patients with any necessary paperwork, provide information on services available and the way in which the system works and, perhaps most important of all, sit and listen to the patient, or their family, whilst they express their fears and anxieties.

Information and Advice

Information on all aspects of the help and advice available for the visually impaired can be given over the phone by BCBS staff at Erleigh Road or during home visits where ongoing advice and social contact can be arranged.

We also have a range of leaflets on various eye conditions.

Visual Impairment Awareness Talks

Visual Impairment Awareness Talks are given to local health professionals, schools and any other community groups in return for a small donation. For further information contact Sue Gook.
